Eastern and Southern Africa is an important focus for research into amaranth, the Amaranth Institute has a strong positive relationship with the region. 

In 2018 the Amaranth Institute held a Symposium in Tanzania in collaborationwith ECHO East Africa and World Vision Tanzania.

Board Member Elibariki Kisimbo, the Development Director at Empower Tanzania, Inc., has presented a number of papers at our conferences, including: Introduction of Grain Amaranth in Tanzania (2011) and An Overview of Amaranth Production in Tanzania (2015) and Development of grain amaranth in Tanzania (2016).

At our 2022 conference, Dr. Fekadu Dinssa presented Amaranth Varietal Selection and use in Tanzania.
