Amaranth in Colombia

Amaranth is cultivated across Colombia’s Andean region, notably in Cundinamarca, Nariño, and Boyacá. Known locally as ataco or bledo, it is valued for its high-protein seeds and leafy greens. It thrives in tropical climates (0–2600m), offering a sustainable, gluten-free superfood alternative that is more adaptable than quinoa.
